innFactory has been an official partner of Lightbend since early 2018. We have demonstrated the appropriate know-how in the form of certificates and projects and are pleased to be able to operate as one of the few partners in Germany.

Tobias, for example, is a Lightbend Certified Expert for akka, Scala, and the Play2 Framework. Lightbend’s products and frameworks have become a key technology for us in the backend for reactive cloud systems. Usually in connection with AWS Cloud and a UI/UX interface with React or React-Native.

Who is Lightbend anyway?

Lightbend was founded by Martin Odersky (the inventor of Scala), Jonas Bonér (the inventor of the middleware akka), and Paul Phillips in 2011 as Typesafe. In 3 funding rounds, Lightbend was able to raise over 40 million in capital. The headquarters are located in San Francisco.

Lightbend offers its customers and partners a variety of open-source tools for developing reactive applications. This includes their enterprise support. Most tools are used on clouds like AWS, GCE, or Azure.

In 2016, the company was renamed to Lightbend. In mid-2017, it was announced that Lightbend is working together with IBM on solutions for cognitive computing in the enterprise sector.

Can I use a startup’s technology in my company?

We clearly say Yes!

Because many large companies already trust Lightbend’s technology. These include companies such as Zalando, Amazon, IBM, Verizon, Twitter, Intel, DHL, SAP, LinkedIn, Walmart, WeightWatchers, UniCredit, HP, ING, EA Games, Credit Karma, Capital One, Juniper Networks, Huawei, Starbucks, and many more. Many interesting use cases can be found on Lightbend’s website.

Additionally, many de facto cloud and machine learning frameworks are already programmed based on Scala, akka, or Play. These include, for example, the cluster computing framework Apache Spark, the load testing tool Gatling, or the distributed streaming platform Apache Kafka.
