Employee Introduction #2: Patrick Stadler

innFactory is characterized above all by a strong team and long-term collaboration. That’s why we want to introduce our team in short employee interviews.

Name:

Patrick Stadler

Education:

Bachelor of Science, Computer Science

Area of activity at innFactory:

Solution Architect, Backend Development

How long have you been working at innFactory and how did you become aware of innFactory?

Since February 2018.

I was introduced through a friend who already knew Tobi (Tobias Jonas) and Toni (Anton Spöck) from secondary school and vocational school. He told me about the new and freshly founded company innFactory and asked if I was interested in a working student position. Then we went together to an innFactory meetup in the old Stellwerk, and he introduced me to Toni there. The rest is history.

You were not only the first working student but also the first full-time employee of innFactory. What distinguishes innFactory as an employer and what were the decisive arguments for you to work full-time at innFactory?

– Definitely the young and future-oriented founding team.

– The team as a whole.

– Flexibility (working hours, home office/on-site work)

– The technologies / technology stack (Scala, Akka, Play, Cloud)

– Trying out new things / advancing / very good development opportunities.

What do you like best about your work at innFactory?

The ability to bring private life and work into perfect balance. Of course, the flexible, hybrid, and individual home office / on-site arrangement contributes to this.

In your over 2 years at innFactory, several projects have been realized. Which implemented project are you particularly proud of and why?

It’s hard to narrow it down to one. There are several projects I’m very proud of!

First, there’s the LauraAI backend. That was my first big backend project. I’m proud of it because it has been running very stably for several years now, even though many requirements have changed and major rebuilds were necessary. Overall, that speaks to a good architecture.

Furthermore, the Cotema / Corsign services. These had to be developed in a very short time and under constantly changing requirements. The feature scope grew rapidly during development. However, maintainability is still almost like on the first day. The backend runs on multiple instances extremely stably and was able to process several tens of thousands of appointments in often very large load peaks without problems.

And many, many more, which would go beyond the scope here.

Before your computer science studies, you were a chemical laboratory technician. Why did you decide to retrain back then? How did your interest in software development develop and what excites you about computer science and programming?

I was always fascinated by computers and tried to teach myself programming during school. At that time, I had applied for both an IT specialist position and a chemical laboratory technician position. However, I only received an offer for the chemical laboratory technician position. Deep down, I knew that I belonged in IT and then completed my Abitur at the BOS and applied to the TH (then FH) Rosenheim. Software development and computer science fascinate me through the seemingly unlimited possibilities. In addition, there are the feelings of success when you get a complex architecture running or manage to establish stable software-hardware communication.

Your main focus is on backend development. How did that come about?

That just developed over time. I started, like most people, in frontend with React. Then over time I took on more and more backend projects, e.g., LauraAI and the “Play2-Bootstrap” template. Since becoming a full-time employee, the focus has been on the backend with Play2, Akka, and Scala.

Which three employee benefits do you particularly appreciate at innFactory?

– Home office

– Free Flötzinger Spezi (Zero) in the office.

– Flexible working hours

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not programming?

– Programming ;)

– Dealing with orbital mechanics/rocket technology and astronomy.

– Playing computer games, mainly simulators.

– Sports

– 3D Printing

Is there anything you’d like to say to potential applicants?

– At innFactory, everyone finds their place (in the team, in the office, or home office, as well as technologically)!

– Don’t be afraid to apply just because you’re unsure in an area or don’t know it well. At innFactory, you really learn to work with the tools, languages, and frameworks.
