Employee Introduction #4: Alexander Hauenstein

innFactory is characterized above all by a strong team and long-term collaboration. That’s why we want to introduce our team in short employee interviews.
Name:
Alexander Hauenstein
Education:
Bachelor of Science, Computer Science
Master’s student, Computer Science
Area of activity at innFactory:
Software Engineer
How long have you been working at innFactory and how did you become aware of innFactory?
I have been working at innFactory since February 2018. A Google search for IT companies in Rosenheim made me aware of innFactory. That was shortly before the end of my practical semester at a company in Munich. I was looking for a new challenge, a position where I could gain practical experience alongside my bachelor’s studies as a software engineer and contribute. All of this preferably on-site in Rosenheim. innFactory seemed like the right company to me at the time, which has been confirmed for me over time.
Why did you choose innFactory as your employer during your studies?
For me, the size of the team definitely played a decisive role. I started at innFactory at the same time as Patrick Stadler. With the three founders Tobi, Toni, and Maxi, there were only five of us. My hope was, on the one hand, that with such a team size I would be quickly trained and involved in projects. On the other hand, my hope was to gain insight into various areas and be able to make an important contribution to the company’s growth. And that’s exactly how it turned out for me. For me, working at innFactory is the perfect complement to my studies and also the place where I want to continue to fully contribute after completing my master’s degree.
What event was the absolute highlight at innFactory for you? Which implemented project are you particularly proud of?
There are indeed countless events and occasions. Every project brings something new and exciting. But I’ll try to narrow it down a bit. Directly related to work, the go-live of Laura.ai and the monitoring tool from Familotel have remained very memorable as special events. Laura.ai was the first project I was involved in and at the time the only one innFactory was developing. I personally took care of some components in the frontend but mainly the mathematical calculations that compute the optimal financing concepts for a prospect from various parameters. The requirements for these calculations have evolved over the course of the project, and the algorithms can now take into account not only the interest rate risk of a loan but also a building savings loan and KFW loans. The fact that Laura.ai has been deployed at more and more banks in recent months makes me somewhat proud. The go-live of the Familotel monitoring tool was so exciting because it was the first project where I was mainly responsible for the frontend development. I’m especially pleased that Familotel is very satisfied with the tool and already has many ideas for further development.
Besides work, innFactory also regularly offers great team events that are definitely highlights for me. Particularly memorable are wakeboarding together with 8sense, visiting the Escape Room Rosenheim, the many barbecue evenings, and one or the other round of Among Us during the Corona-related time in home office.
You were one of the first employees of innFactory. What distinguishes innFactory as an employer for you? Which three employee benefits do you particularly appreciate at innFactory?
Solid, transparent leadership with a constant desire for growth, new projects, and product ideas. But without leaving the team behind, overwhelming the existing team structure through growth, or endangering the stability of the company itself. Also, simply a likable team. A humane and respectful interaction with each other. Lots of room to take on responsibility yourself, to grow, and gain practical experience. Also, the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of topics. Plus current technologies and agile working. All of this defines innFactory for me.
My top 3 employee benefits:
– Free Flötzinger Spezi
– Flexible working hours & home office arrangement
– Flexible vacation planning
You are currently working on finding a topic for your computer science master’s thesis. What topic will you probably write your thesis on?
I will probably write about time series databases. A very exciting topic that couldn’t be more current. The Internet of Things is gaining importance, and more and more devices and sensors are capturing time-related data. Such amounts of data naturally need to be processed, stored, and analyzed. Time series databases are database systems explicitly designed for this purpose. Some are based on familiar technologies, Timescale, for example, uses PostgreSQL under the hood. Other database systems like InfluxDB have developed an entirely new architecture. To get an overview of the current state, it would therefore be interesting to conduct a comparison of current time series databases as part of a master’s thesis.
What is your favorite programming language?
Scala is definitely my favorite. Even though I’m currently more familiar with Typescript. With its strong typing, its aspects from object-orientation and functional programming, Scala has much more to offer.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not programming?
Then I really enjoy doing sports, being in the mountains, listening to an audiobook, watching a series, gaming again, or meeting up with friends or my family.
