Employee Introduction #11: Fabian Artmann

innFactory is characterized above all by a strong team and long-term collaboration. That’s why we want to introduce our team in short employee interviews in the coming weeks.

Name:

Fabian Artmann

Education:

Industrial Engineer

Area of activity at innFactory:

Business Development, Product Management and Quality Management

How long have you been working at innFactory?

I’ve been working at innFactory since October 2019. So for a good two years now. I was the seventh employee. Now we’re fifteen. :)

What’s it like for a non-computer scientist to work in a software company?

Exciting! But also positively challenging at times. At first, it was hard to understand the language and abbreviations of the programmers. There are definitely some very interesting and important tasks besides software development. As an industrial engineer and quality management representative, my focus is naturally on business development and product and quality management. I also like to take on tasks in sales and marketing from time to time.

What areas have you newly discovered at innFactory and what would you like to learn?

Right at the beginning of my time at innFactory, I especially discovered UI/UX design for myself. By now, creating modern mockups from customer requirements has become one of my personal core competencies. Through my bachelor’s thesis in the area of business model development for our computer vision application bluevis for the construction industry, I dealt intensively with business development and product management. There’s still a lot I can and want to learn in these areas. The same applies to modern quality management.

What is the DNA of innFactory for you? What sets it apart from other companies?

The DNA of innFactory is definitely to always be a technological pioneer while taking all stakeholders (employees, customers, partners) along.
What sets innFactory apart from other companies is definitely its agile way of working, flexible working models, and flat hierarchies.

At innFactory, you occupy the interface between technology and business model. What makes this mix so exciting for you?

As a generalist, you don’t have to be able to do everything in detail, but you at least have to understand the developers and their technical topics. I like to spend a whole day on UI/UX design in AdobeXD or technical SOPs for ISO certifications, but on the other hand, I also enjoy being in contact with business partners and customers and developing business and pricing models. I also particularly enjoy the task of being a mediator between our techies and the customer in requirements engineering.

Where do you see the challenge as an industrial engineer among computer scientists and how easy or difficult was it to get into the technical communication?

A big challenge at the beginning is of course understanding the abstract thinking and speaking of the developers. But with a lot of listening and asking questions, you can quickly get into it. To also gain more IT understanding professionally, in my current master’s studies I focus strongly on computer science modules, such as information and communication technology, IoT/cyber-physical systems, and reinforcement learning for technical systems.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to work at innFactory in the future?

  1. Just apply without fear or hesitation. Everything you don’t know yet, you can learn if you want to. 2. Ask, ask, ask. Everyone explains and supports everyone else when there’s time.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my dog in the forest or in the mountains, riding my gravel bike, getting involved in local politics, and traveling. In winter, I often go ski touring with my brothers and friends.
