What is AWS IoT FleetWise?
AWS IoT FleetWise is a managed service you can use to collect vehicle data and organize it in the cloud. The service transforms low-level messages from different vehicle protocols and data formats into human-readable, standardized values, making fleet-wide analysis possible without building a custom data collection or logging system.
Important notice: AWS IoT FleetWise has been closed to new customers since April 30, 2026. Existing customers can continue using the service unchanged. For new connected mobility projects, AWS recommends the “Guidance for Connected Mobility on AWS” as a modular alternative approach.
Data collection campaigns define which vehicle signals are captured and transferred under which conditions, such as engine data under high load or battery data at low charge levels. Data can also be buffered on the vehicle and forwarded to the cloud only under optimal conditions (e.g., when connected to Wi-Fi), which reduces cellular costs.
Core Features
- Intelligent Data Collection: Campaign-based collection that sends only relevant data to the cloud
- Standardized Vehicle Data: Transformation of low-level signals (e.g., CAN bus) into readable, fleet-wide comparable values
- Edge Buffering: Local buffering on the vehicle and transfer under optimal network conditions
- Vision System Data (Preview): Synchronization of camera, radar, and lidar data with telemetry data
- Commands & State Templates: Remote control of selected vehicle functions and tracking of vehicle state
Typical Use Cases
Fleet Optimization: Driving behavior data is analyzed to optimize fuel consumption, predict maintenance needs, and improve route planning.
Electric Vehicle Analysis: Battery health and charging behavior are monitored across the entire fleet to detect degradation patterns early.
Autonomous Vehicle Development: Telemetry and vision system data are used to train and improve ML models for autonomous driving and driver-assistance systems.
Benefits
- Standardized, fleet-wide data analysis without a custom logging system
- Reduced transfer costs through conditional collection and edge buffering
- Integration with AWS IoT Core, Amazon Timestream, and Amazon S3
- Unified view of telemetry and vision system data

Frequently Asked Questions
What is AWS IoT FleetWise?
AWS IoT FleetWise is a managed service for collecting and organizing vehicle data in the cloud. It transforms low-level vehicle signals (e.g., CAN bus) into human-readable, standardized values and provides data collection campaigns that control which data is transferred to the cloud and when.
Is AWS IoT FleetWise still available?
AWS IoT FleetWise has been closed to new customers since April 30, 2026. Existing customers can continue using the service unchanged. For new projects, AWS points to the 'Guidance for Connected Mobility on AWS' to build comparable capabilities in a modular way.
How does FleetWise reduce the amount of data transferred?
FleetWise collects data selectively on the vehicle through campaigns with defined conditions, and can buffer data locally to transfer it only under optimal conditions (e.g., when connected to Wi-Fi). This significantly reduces transfer costs compared to continuous full transmission.
What does AWS IoT FleetWise cost?
Billing is monthly, based on the number of vehicles created in FleetWise and the messages collected. Exact prices are available on the official AWS pricing page, as they vary by region and usage volume.
