What is Amazon RDS on VMware?

Amazon RDS on VMware brings the managed database service of Amazon RDS to local VMware vSphere environments. You get the same familiar RDS management (automatic backups, patching, monitoring) for databases running in your own data center.

The service is suited for scenarios where data must remain on-premises for regulatory or latency reasons, but you want to leverage the operational benefits of a managed database service.

What is the difference between RDS on VMware and regular RDS?

RDS on VMware runs in your local VMware environment instead of the AWS Cloud. You get the same management features (automatic backups, patching, monitoring), but data stays in your data center.

Which database engines are supported?

Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. The same engines available in AWS RDS can be used on-premises with the familiar RDS management experience.

Do I need a connection to AWS?
