Frequently Asked Questions
What is Azure Data Share?
Azure Data Share is a managed Microsoft service that lets organizations share data securely and traceably with external customers and partners, without building their own FTP or API infrastructure.
Is the data copied?
With snapshot-based sharing, data is transferred into the recipient's target store, either as a full or incremental snapshot on a schedule. With in-place sharing, currently available for Azure Data Explorer, data stays at the source and is read live through a link.
What does Azure Data Share cost?
The data provider is billed per dataset snapshot plus a vCore-hour charge for snapshot execution. In-place sharing does not incur snapshot charges. Refer to the official pricing page for current rates.
Which data sources are supported?
Supported sources include Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Explorer; see Microsoft's documentation for the current full list.
