What is STACKIT CDN?
STACKIT CDN is a Content Delivery Network that has been generally available (GA) since December 2025. The service delivers content through a global network of points of presence: geofencing lets you define which regions (Europe, North America, Asia & Oceania, South America, Africa) cache and deliver your content; geoblocking lets you block access from individual countries. The origin can be either STACKIT Object Storage - keeping data in your chosen STACKIT region - or any custom HTTP/HTTPS origin. Since April 2026, an Image Optimizer add-on is also available for automatic image optimization.
Core Features
- Geofencing: Select delivery regions (Europe, North America, Asia & Oceania, South America, Africa)
- Geoblocking: Block access from specific countries
- Integrated WAF (CDN WAF): Basic tier included with configurable OWASP-based rule sets; Premium tier is currently in development and not bookable, per the documentation
- DDoS protection: Built-in protection against distributed denial-of-service attacks
- Cache control: Manual cache invalidation via portal, API, or SDK (Terraform/OpenTofu in development per the documentation; CLI support not yet available)
- Image Optimizer: WebP conversion, smart resizing, dynamic image API, and automatic JS/CSS minification (since 04/2026)
- TLS protocol control: TLS 1.0/1.1 disabled by default, TLS 1.2/1.3 active; managed Let’s Encrypt or custom certificates
- Log sinks: OTLP log sink with Bearer token authentication plus granular cache key control by query string and request headers (since September 2026, via API/SDK)
Typical Use Cases
Website acceleration: Caching of static assets such as images, scripts, and stylesheets to reduce loading times.
Image optimization: Automatic conversion and resizing of images via the Image Optimizer, without any application code changes.
Software distribution: Delivering updates and assets across multiple regions.
Compliance-sensitive delivery: Geofencing and geoblocking let you ensure content is only cached in specific regions or cannot be accessed from certain countries.
Benefits
- Origin data can optionally be hosted in STACKIT data centers (STACKIT Object Storage)
- Regional control over delivery through geofencing and geoblocking
- Integrated WAF (Basic tier) and DDoS protection with no separate booking
- Additional performance gains through the Image Optimizer
Integration with innFactory
As an official STACKIT partner, innFactory supports you with CDN: architecture, configuring caching and security rules, integrating the Image Optimizer, and ongoing operations and cost optimization.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is STACKIT CDN?
STACKIT CDN is a Content Delivery Network that has been generally available (GA) since December 2025. It delivers static and dynamic content across selectable regions, while origin data can optionally be hosted in STACKIT data centers (e.g. STACKIT Object Storage).
Can I control which regions deliver my content?
Yes. Geofencing lets you define which regions (Europe, North America, Asia & Oceania, South America, Africa) cache and deliver your content. Geoblocking additionally lets you block access from specific countries.
What is the Image Optimizer?
The Image Optimizer is an add-on available since April 2026 that automatically converts images to efficient formats like WebP, resizes them for the requesting device, and transforms them via a URL-based dynamic image API, without any application code changes.
How is security handled?
STACKIT CDN includes an integrated Web Application Firewall (CDN WAF) and DDoS protection. TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are disabled by default; older protocols can be explicitly enabled if needed.
How is billing handled?
Billing is usage-based on data transferred (price per MB), tiered by delivery region (Europe, North America, Asia & Oceania, South America, Africa). The Image Optimizer is billed by active usage duration, with a capped monthly maximum per the documentation.
