What is STACKIT Telemetry Router?

STACKIT Telemetry Router is a central, fully managed service for collecting and forwarding audit streams and has been generally available (GA) since June 2, 2026, operated in the EU01 (Germany) and EU02 (Austria) regions. It collects audit logs from STACKIT services, standardizes them into the open OpenTelemetry format (OTLP), and forwards them to configurable targets. The service reduces the effort of log collection since individual STACKIT services don’t need to be configured separately. The legacy Audit Log API was decommissioned as scheduled at GA; existing integrations had to migrate to Telemetry Router v1.

Core Features

  • Central aggregation of audit logs from all connected STACKIT services
  • Native support for the OpenTelemetry protocol (OTLP) for data export
  • Flexible forwarding to OTLP-compatible endpoints or S3 Object Storage
  • Management of instances, access tokens, and destinations via portal and API
  • Free viewing of the last 90 days of audit logs directly in the STACKIT Portal
  • Reliable (“at-least-once”) delivery through retry mechanisms and flow control

Scope note: According to the documentation, Telemetry Router exclusively processes audit logs from STACKIT services; your own application telemetry (logs, metrics, traces) currently cannot be fed into the service.

Typical Use Cases

Central Audit Collection: Organizations with multiple STACKIT services collect all audit events in one central location instead of configuring each service individually.

Connecting Observability and SIEM Stacks: Via OTLP, telemetry data can be fed into existing OTLP-capable monitoring or security solutions.

Long-Term Archiving: Audit data can additionally or alternatively be stored in S3 Object Storage, for example for compliance and evidentiary purposes.

Benefits

  • Standardization on the open OpenTelemetry format instead of proprietary log formats
  • Central configuration instead of per-service configuration
  • Flexible choice of target between OTLP endpoints and S3 storage
  • Operated in German data centers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is STACKIT Telemetry Router?

STACKIT Telemetry Router is a fully managed service that centrally collects audit logs and telemetry data from STACKIT services, standardizes them into the OpenTelemetry format (OTLP), and forwards them to configurable targets. The service has been generally available (GA) since June 2026.

What targets can Telemetry Router forward data to?

Supported targets include OTLP-compatible endpoints as well as S3 Object Storage. This allows the service to connect to common observability and SIEM tools that accept OTLP or S3 as input.

When should I use Telemetry Router?

Use it whenever you need to centrally capture audit and platform events from multiple STACKIT services, retain them in a tamper-evident way, or feed them into an existing monitoring or SIEM system.

What does STACKIT Telemetry Router cost?

The service is billed on a usage basis (pay-per-use). The official STACKIT pricing page is authoritative for current prices.

How does Telemetry Router integrate with existing systems?

Through the open OpenTelemetry standard (OTLP), the router can connect to a wide range of modern observability platforms without needing to configure individual STACKIT services separately.

Can I also send my own application logs through Telemetry Router?

No. According to the documentation, the service exclusively processes audit logs from STACKIT services; customers cannot currently feed their own application logs, metrics, or traces into Telemetry Router. STACKIT Logs and STACKIT Observability are available for your own telemetry data.

What happened to the previous Audit Log API?

The legacy Audit Log API was decommissioned as scheduled on June 2, 2026, alongside the GA release of Telemetry Router. Existing integrations had to be migrated to Telemetry Router v1.
