CleverOne is the leading cloud software for funeral homes in Germany - from employee apps to memorial printing and digital signatures. When innFactory took over the project, the platform faced massive challenges:
- Non-scalable Architecture: The original PHP-based solution couldn’t keep up with customer growth
- Exploding Cloud Costs: The more customers joined, the exponentially higher the operating costs became
- Technical Debt: The existing codebase was difficult to maintain and prevented rapid feature development
- Availability Issues: The platform couldn’t meet high-availability requirements
The Solution
innFactory took over the complete platform and conducted comprehensive reengineering - not as a big-bang migration, but as a controlled transformation in live operation.
Technical Transformation
Cloud Architecture Reimagined:
- Migration to Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) with autoscaling
- Transition to Aurora DB for managed, highly available PostgreSQL databases
- High-availability setup across 3 AWS Availability Zones in Frankfurt
Backend Modernization:
- Replacement of PHP containers with high-performance Scala 2/3 and TypeScript microservices
- Implementation of an “External Service” pattern for clean system integration
- AWS Cognito for identity management and secure authentication
