The Challenge
Familotel AG unites over 50 family-run hotels in Germany and Austria under one umbrella brand. However, for strategic management of the hotel group, a central database was missing: booking numbers, occupancy rates, and revenue forecasts were scattered across different systems at individual hotels. Manual consolidation in Excel spreadsheets was time-consuming and error-prone.
To make informed decisions about marketing campaigns, pricing, and resource planning, management needed a solution that aggregates all relevant metrics in real-time.
The Solution
innFactory developed a customized business intelligence platform that automatically captures booking data from all connected hotels and visualizes it in a central dashboard.
Real-Time Data Integration
The platform collects booking information from various hotel systems and consolidates it into a unified data structure. Automated data imports eliminate manual number gathering - management has access to current information at any time.
Booking Forecasts and Predictions
The heart of the application is the booking forecast: hotel managers can see at a glance how bookings are developing for the coming weeks and months. Historical comparisons reveal trends and enable early action - such as additional marketing activities during low booking periods or price adjustments during peak times.
Flexible Analytics
The platform enables granular analysis across various dimensions:
| Dimension | Example Analytics |
|---|---|
| Time Period | Week comparisons, seasonal analysis, annual trends |
| Hotel | Individual hotel performance, group comparisons |
| Region | Occupancy by state/country |
| Segment | Families with toddlers vs. school-age children |
Data Quality Assurance
An integrated completeness check verifies weekly whether all hotels have submitted their data. Missing reports are automatically flagged, allowing headquarters to follow up specifically.
Technical Implementation
The architecture relies on proven cloud-native technologies:
- Backend: Scala-based API with GraphQL for flexible data queries
- Frontend: React dashboard with TypeScript for type-safe development
- Database: Cloud SQL PostgreSQL for reliable data storage
- Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform with automatic scaling
The GraphQL API enables the frontend to request exactly the data needed - without over- or under-fetching. This ensures fast loading times even with complex dashboard views across many hotels.
The Results
With the new platform, Familotel AG has gained complete transparency over their hotel group’s business development. What used to take days of manual work is now available at the push of a button. Management can react faster to market changes and make data-driven decisions - from budget planning to campaign management.
